Spring Tips for Better Health

POSTED ON May 8, 2026

The flowers have bloomed and the temperatures are climbing.  Spring in New England has arrived! Here are some seasonal tips for better health.

To improve cardiovascular health, incorporate more outdoor activities that the warmer weather allows. Gardening and walking are great examples. Light stretching also helps mobility and circulation.

For skin health, wear 30 or higher sunscreen (or UV protection clothing) whenever outside since the sun is stronger now.

To support skin, muscles and joints, have adequate hydration with water (not sugary drinks) as the weather gets warmer. To improve the taste if you don’t like water, add juice from blending fresh fruits like strawberries or pineapple.  Remember to have regular meals to maintain electrolyte balance.

For mental wellness, spend time enjoying nature. Visiting a local park and being outdoors will improve mood.

Improve nutrition by incorporating more fiber, fresh fruits and vegetables. Have lighter meals like fish instead of heavy winter comfort meals.

For respiratory health reduce dust and allergens in your home by cleaning out your living space and changing air filters.

To reduce falls risk, use the springtime to declutter your home and remove items you don’t need.

For social connectivity, which is so important for healthy living, stay in touch with loved ones through an in-person visit or a video chat.

For overall wellness catch up on overdue medical appointments and screenings.

To keep your mind strong, prioritize quality sleep with a consistent bedtime routine and a calming sleep space. Keep your mind engaged with puzzles or reading.

Spring is a season of renewal. It is an ideal time to recommit to wellness goals, find things that bring you joy and practice excellent, healthy habits.
